HOT TUB DUCK GOES TO SCOTLAND

Thanks to Brandon Jones in our Everett Olympic Hot Tub Company store for this photo from his recent trip to Scotland. That’s his hot tub duck overlooking Stirling Castle near Edinburgh.

Don’t leave your duck at home. You’ll need 2 ducks-one for the tub and one packed in your suitcase so you don’t forget to take it along. Take that duck out for some photos of your travels and send them to us.  We’d love to see where you and your duck have been.

HOT SPRING SPAS-Only SPAS CERTIFIED BY NATIONAL SANITATION FOUNDATION FOR THE ENTIRE SAFETY OF THE SPA!

The National Sanitation Foundation International is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to help consumers Live Safer everyday. Recently the NSF raised the bar in spa safety by introducing NSF P181 certification which-for the first time ever-combines health and safety requirements for circulation, filtration, heating and sanitation of spa water with material, design & construction, and performance requirements. Bottom line? NSF P181 certifies the whole spa-not just selected parts like filters.

THE NATIONAL SANITATION FOUNDATION HAS GIVEN THIS CERTIFICATION TO ONLY ONE BRAND OF SPAS- HOT SPRING SPAS.

Hot Spring Spas, the number one selling brand of portable spas worldwide, is the first in the industry to be certified by the NSF for meeting a comprehensive set of standards that evaluate the overall safety and performance of an entire spa.

It’s no surprise that Hot Spring Spas are the first to meet the strict requirements of NSFP181 certification. Hot Spring Spas have long been known for their high quality and technological innovation. So you can relax with the confidence that your hot tub was built with your family’s health and safety in mind. Your peace of mind is priceless.

Hot Spring Spas have been an Olympic Hot Tub Company exclusive in Puget Sound since 1982. We’re proud to offer consumers the reassurance of owning a spa with the NSFP181 mark.

SOAK IN YOUR HOT TUB UNDER THE FULL MOON-THIS SATRUDAY!

Clear weather is predicted for Saturday night. Don’t miss this chance to see the May Moon-some times called the Planting Moon or Milk Moon in Farmer’s Almanacs.   Grab a towel, beverage of choice and head on out to your Hot Spring Spa. Go easy on the alcohol-it’s really not recommended as an accompaniment to hot tub soaking and may NOT lead to hot tub bliss.  The hot water is a stimulant to your system and the alcohol is a depressant. Even if you’re in the best of health-you might experience a crash from drinking too much and soaking too. Sparkling water is the perfect beverage for hot tub soaking.

Set a time (I say this because if you’re like me your days and nights are over-scheduled) to spend a half hour lost in the beauty of the full moon as seen from your hot tub.  This Friday or Saturday night the moon will be at it’s fullest. The weather has been so funky lately.  Who knows when we’ll have clear skies and a chance to view the moon from your hot tub like this anytime soon??!!

CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN THE HOT TUB

The arrival of the cherry blossoms in Japan is a time for great happiness and joy. People flock to parks and along rivers to walk under the blossoms and delight in petals swirling in the wind.

We have so many cherry trees with exquisite blossoms in Seattle but I haven’t paid much attention to them until this year. I love them visually, but when they started to fall into the hot tub after a big rain and wind storm, I took notice! Those pink blossoms are beautiful, but can make a mess in the hot tub if you don’t watch out.  Plant material of any kind decomposes in the hot water.  It can be hard to cope with as you try to keep your hot tub clean and sanitary. Fortunately the weir door (the flap that regulates the flow of water into the top loading filters) on our Hot Spring Spa creates a barrier. (We have a Hot Spring Prodigy-perfect for two. It doesn’t add much weight to our roof deck because of the built-in joists underneath the spa. It’s fewer pounds per square foot than a refrigerator).  With the jets on, all of the petals are pulled to the weir, but don’t flow over it and get into the filters. I can scoop them out with my hands. No big deal.

And, it makes me feel like I’m in Japan enjoying the blossoms under our neighbor’s cherry tree which leans out over our rooftop.  The swirling pink petals are a real delight as we soak in our hot tub and I don’t have to worry about the cleanliness of  hot tub water!

LOSE WEIGHT WHILE YOU SLEEP-SOAK IN YOUR HOT TUB BEFORE BED!

Sleep more and weigh less? Is this true? Sounds like a fairy tale or urban rumor.  But, according to research conducted at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, women who get at least seven hours of shut eye a night are getting beauty rest and more. They’re preventing significant weight gain over time. This study found that the likelihood of major weight gain-33 pounds or more-rose 32% for women who slept only five hours a night. These women were also 15% more likely to become obese than the longer sleepers. Even after analysis of diet and activity levels of longer and shorter sleepers, scientists found no differences that explained why those who got less sleep weighed more. In fact, those who slept less also ate less, but they also tended to exercise less. It is possible that reduced slumber affects the number of calories burned at rest (basal metabolic rate) and translates into weight gain over time.

What’s the bottom line for weight loss? Getting a good night’s sleep is the best strategy for maintaining a healthy weight. And, how to get that good night’s sleep? You can find many suggestions on the American Sleep Association website.  One of the best is to soak in your hot tub or hot bath at least 2 hours before bed for 15-20 minutes at 102-104 degrees. As your body cools, you’ll be ready for a deep relaxing sleep and that all important weight loss!

A bath tub will not give you the same benefit. There are no jets to relax you and the water does not say at 102-104 degrees for the twenty minutes soaking time required for deeper sleep.

Want to lose weight? Get more sleep by taking a nightly soak in your Hot Spring Spa!
