Son Purchases Hot Tub As A Surprise Gift for Father

I thought I’d heard all of the reasons why people bought a hot tub-ranging from relaxation to family fun. But this is a very rare and touching story about a Hot Spring Spa purchase by Tim Aquino a  Olympic Hot Tub Company Hot Spring Spa Envoy owner. Tim installed his spa last May and has loved it ever since. A month ago he was in the Olympic Lacey store telling his salesperson, Exelane Lanzaga, what a tough year his father had had after several deaths in the family. Suddenly Tim had an inspiration.  He decided to surprise his father, Arnold, with a new spa.

He selected a model and arranged for delivery. But first had to think of a way to have his father out of the house when the spa was delivered.  Exelane found a restaurant gift certificate from a past promotion which she gave to Tim. Tim arranged to take his father out for lunch while the spa was being delivered.

Exelane was there to photograph the red bow delivery on Saturday, February 13th as father and son hugged.  She had gone to Arnold’s home earlier in the day and attached balloons to the spa to really make it a party. Arnold was totally surprised and immensely touched by his son’s generosity and thoughtfulness. Now he has his own Hot Spring Jetsetter with a MotoMassage jet for a full back massage to use every day.

What a great story! What prompted you to buy a hot tub? I’d love to hear your story.

Hot Tub Duck Goes to Uganda

Here’s another post in our traveling duck series. Olympic Hot Tub Company hot tub owners take their hot tub ducks on trips, take photos and send them to me. It’s such a kick to receive these photos. It many not be National Geographic, but it’s a lot of fun.

Hi Alice:

My family and I have enjoyed our Hot Springs, Grandee Hot Tub for over 10 years.

On a trip my family and I took to Uganda, East Africa, we took the infamous “duck” along with us.  We had the pleasure of touring the country and having the “Olympic Duck” travel with us all the way. The attached picture exhibits the duck at the Equator in Uganda. (Note: The duck is the yellow bump just to the left of the “A” in Equator.  How did he get the duck up on the sign?)

Thank you.

Abe Mouracade

Auburn, Washington

Take your hot tub duck with you on your next trip! Send a photo and brief description of the trip and setting to alice@olympichottub.com. Where will the duck go next?

Hot Tub Heaters

We went out to use our hot tub Sunday night and, yikes!, the water was not up to temperature! It was only warmish. My husband, the engineer, suspected that the heater had gone out. We have a 6 year old Prodigy model Hot Spring Spa on our roof top deck.  I started thinking about older hot tubs and the fact that the heater used to be the most vulnerable part of the system of any hot tub system. Typically heaters lasted 2-3 years before needing replacement because they were very susceptible to corrosion from bad water chemistry. The exclusive Hot Spring No-Fault® heaters are made with a titanium alloy that stands up to improper water balance-i.e. pH too low or high and alkalinity and hardness out of whack.  Not that our tub is ever out of balance, my husband is meticulous about keeping the water in perfect condition. So 6 years since our original purchase is a good long time and double what the life expectancy of regular in-line hot tub heaters is. One more reason why Hot Spring Spas are a great investment.

My husband called for service yesterday and Reg Akright, Olympic Hot Tub Company’s Head Service Technician, came out this morning and had the new heater installed in under 20 minutes.

We didn’t need “a brain surgeon” to do the job.  Reg was the Service Technician with an opening in his schedule.   Reg celebrated his 20th Anniversary with Olympic in October.  He is known as the most knowledgeable and skilled technician in the entire Hot Spring network.  Reg could probably replace a heater blindfolded.

Thanks to Reg for all he does for our Olympic customers and for being an integral part of  our company and a major contributor to our success for 20 years. We appreciate him more than words can express. That’s a photo of Reg holding the 20 year plaque we awarded him.

By the way, Reg’s avocation is stone sculpting. He was honored as the Snohomish Arts Council’s Artist of the Year for 2008. And as his peers have observed: “He is a regionally known and well respected stone sculptor who is actively creating wonderful works of art that enhance our cultural lives. His work is in private and public collections up and down the Pacific Coast. ”

Great Hot Tub Service is Defined by Service Technician, Ron

Here’s a letter about Olympic Hot Tub Company’s service and our Service Technician, Ron Gabbard, that made my day! I had a talk with Ron who was the inspiration behind this letter from a very enthusiastic Hot Spring owner. Ron said that his job is easy because “we stand behind the products we sell and treat our Service Technicians as important to the business.” Our service techs are vital to our business. They’re in the field daily doing an excellent job and getting our customers back into hot water or just doing a pre-warranty expiration check-up as this letter speaks to.

January 22, 2010
Dear Olympic,
Hard to believe that we were approaching our 5 year anniversary for our Olympic Spa! I was reminded of that fact by your postcard alerting me that we were nearing the end of our manufacturer’s warranty. That postcard exhibited great customer service on the part of Olympic, but it was your service technician, Ron, who defined what great customer service is all about.

Less than a week after we responded to your postcard, Ron showed up to perform a thorough spa check-up, and identified several issues that needed attention. His experience and expertise allowed him to pinpoint two issues that had not yet resulted in a problem, but, in his opinion, were likely to become a problem in the near future. Both were corrected and covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

Olympic Hot Tub Company has always stood above the crowded field of spa retailers, and I have recommended you to some of our friends with confidence. I now have a renewed passion for your company based upon the excellent service provided by Ron. I hope you will honor him with a little praise for a job well done.
Congratulations,
Rick & Kellie Lawton
Redmond, WA 98053

Thanks to Rick & Kellie  for taking the time to write and expressing their appreciation for Ron and Olympic.  Of course we “threw a party” for Ron and continue to tell him (and our other techs) what a great job he’s doing.  We sent him on a trip to the Hot Spring factory ahead of his scheduled time.  The Service Center staff was  really “blown away” by this letter.

Hot Tub Owner Loses 54 Pounds in One Day-You Can, Too

Hot tub owner writes:  I Lost 54 Pounds in ONE Day. . . . You can too!

We’ve got a Jetsetter- one of the smallest spas that Hot Springs makes. Our 5 year old cover had started to become a bit of a wrestling match each time we went to flip it open.

It was also beginning to harbor some nasty odors, which we suspected were mold or mildew. Even after a water change out, the smell from the cover just didn’t seem right. So, time for a replacement!

I’m not a particularly big guy, but wrestling our 5-year-old cover
off the spa, across the yard and into the car was quite an
interesting challenge. I was surprised to find it weighed in at “only” 87 pounds. It sure felt heavier than that in transit- I suppose it was just awkward trying to carry it because of its shape and size. Very glad there was no one around to take pictures during that process. Although, had there been, they could have helped carry the beast!

When I picked up the new Sunstar cover from the Tukwila Service center, Chris helped put it in the car. He also spent a generous amount of time answering my questions about proper cover and water care.

I was amazed at how light the new cover was, and weighed it upon arrival at home. The new cover weighed just 33 pounds- more than 50 pounds lighter than the monstrosity it replaced! It was a dream to carry around the back of the house and to the spa.

The new cover was a breeze to install and I’m amazed at the difference it’s already made. The start of a soaking session is no longer a wrestling match- the new cover can be lifted with one finger instead of a clean and jerk weightlifting effort. There’s no smell other than
the fresh water revealed with the cover opened, and water beads on the top- something I don’t remember seeing for years.

We’re looking forward to many years of enjoyment from this new Sunstar cover replacement!

Craig Weindling
Bothell, Washington

2004 Hot Spring Jetsetter Owner

Thanks for writing, Craig! If you need a new cover, call the service center today! 206 431-2876

How To Create a Memorable Valentine’s Day: It Starts with a Soak in Your Hot Tub

Leave a note for your loved one suggesting a Valentine’s Day rendezvous ..in your hot tub! Light candles, play some quiet music and enjoy each others company alone under the stars and moonlight in the privacy of your own backyard. Drink chilled sparkling water during your soak. Hot chocolate is another great choice. Chocolate covered strawberries are a great treat for eating in the tub. Lately my husband and I have been eating Emily’s chocolate covered fortune cookies. Yummy and you get a fortune to ponder and laugh about. Have your favorite bottle of wine chilling to drink after soaking. Proseco is a real treat after hot tubbing.

Looking for an aphrodisiac? Skip the heavy meal with too much protein and carbs. Dark chocolate truffles are your best bet!  And Fran’s Chocolates right here in Seattle makes truffles to die for!  Eat a couple in the hot tub. It doesn’t get any better.

It’s not the money spent on a Valentine’s Day gift-it’s the thought. Since this week is National Marriage Week it’s a good time to think about nurturing your relationship. I know, I know. When you say that to men, they freeze and immediately tune out.  But, the thought that you have remembered and wanted to do something special for your spouse or partner goes a long way towards nurturing your relationship. You don’t have to “talk about your relationship”.

If you already have a hot tub think about new towels, new fluffy terry cloth robes combined with a new spa scent such as Being or Magma  Onsen Beppu. Packaged together they may not be diamonds, but a Valentine’s gift that will signify how much you value your romantic time together.

We’ve sold a number of hot tubs this year for Valentine’s gifts that will be a complete surprise to a spouse or partner. We’ve been instructed not to call before hand, just show up with red bow and that we will. What a truly romantic gesture that will ensure romance stays alive in that relationship for years to come!

Hot Tub Smells and What To Do About Them!

Does you hot tub smell musty, dank and full of too much chlorine?  Your water is telling you something: “It’s not sanitary!” That’s no way to enjoy a daily soak. If your tub smells like chlorine you may have too much, but more likely you have too little!  Here’s why: chlorine added to a hot tub oxidizes or burns out all of the organic material in the water. Think: skin residue and all sorts of lotions & potions that end up in the tub after floating off someone’s skin.  When the chlorine works to burn up this waste material, it off gasses.  That’s the public pool smell. Full of chlorine and rather dank. So, now the chlorine has been used in the process and not enough is left for on going sanitizing.

What to do? First, the only smell you want in a hot tub is the one that you add in the form of aromatherapy such as Being which has 4 unique scents that give you even deeper relaxation.  Lavender, rosemary and citrus are the most refreshing scents for clearing your mind and adding a memorable touch to your soaking pleasure.

Second, switching  to SilkBalance which has absolutely no odor. And, also requires no testing, mixing or adding anything but a small amount of chlorine and shock for sanitizing -which you will not smell. SilkBalance stops the formation of bacteria.  You also get the added benefit of  soft smooth shin with SilkBalance which you can’t say for a chlorine based water care system.

No degree in chemistry required. It’s as easy as 1-2-3.  Simply measure 3-4 oz of silkBalance in your hot tub every week (depending on size of the tub), along with sanitizing granules  and chlorine-free shock oxidizer. And, you’re done!

Go natural, go with no-scent SilkBalance for your hot tub at Olympic Hot Tub Company.

Want Better Skin? Skip the Creams; Avoid Surgery – Get a Sauna

Fact: The regular use of a sauna WILL improve your skin and keep it looking younger.
How does sauna bathing keep your skin healthy and looking young? First some background on the human body: The skin acts much like a third kidney in elimination of toxic waste from the body. It is, though, far more complex than the kidney and only second to the brain in complexity. That is really something to think about! The skin is a network of blood vessels, nerve endings, vessles for carrying lymph, pigmentation, oil glands, hair follicles, and cells that waterproof and deny entry to bacteria and sweat glands. The skin is so important to life that death by accumulated poisons can occur within hours if the skin and its sweat passges are smothered. Remember the movie “Goldfinger”?

The skin of a person who is a regular sauna bather is supple and healthy. Properly cared for skin is better able to resist eczema, athlete’s foot, pimples and blackheads. The number one thing people tell us after they’ve purchased a sauna is that their skin has never looked better!  Friends ask if they’ve had a face lift.

Combine sweat bathing and brushing with a loofa or rough brush removes flakes of dried skin cells that accumulate on the outer layer. All of that “dead skin”clogs sweat pores and oil passages and results in a dry, flaky residue.

It’s been said that most people deep clean their carpets more often than they deep clean their skin! Give your skin a break and improve your overall health by taking sauna baths regularly. Wouldn’t you love to look younger without expensive creams and/or surgery?

Installing a sauna at home is a very inexpensieve, time saving and convenient way to maintain good health.  Install a sauna for affordable self-care at home! If you’re not fond of a sweaty, hot sauna, the new far-infrared saunas are for you!  You sweat, but the room does not get excessively hot. And, the soft dry heat penetrates deeper into the skin for better results. For overall clean-get a sauna.

The Good Sweat starts with a Finnleo Sauna from Olympic Hot Tub Company.

Attention Restoration Therapy: Hot Tubbing to Restore Your Ability to Think

Soaking in a hot tub outdoors may be the very thing you need to restore your cognitive ability to peak form. Last Sunday’s New York Times magazine asked the question: “Is there an ecological unconscious?” A branch of psychology says that there is and that ignoring it puts not just our planet but also our minds at risk. In the article by Daniel B. Smith, he mentions a study by researchers at the University of Michigan that was set up to validate attention restoration therapy (A.R. T.)  A.R. T. is a 20 year old idea that posits a stark difference in the ability of the natural and the urban setting to improve congnition.  Nature, A.R.T. maintains, increases focus and memory because it is filled with “soft fascinations” (rustling trees and bubbling water) that give our high-level functions the leisure to replenish.  Urban life, however, is filled with harsh stimuli (honking horns, sirens, billboards) that can cause a kind of cognitive overload.

In a our own study at Olympic Hot Tub Company conducted in late 2008 with a random group of our hot tub owners, we found (although we did not know it was called A.R. T.) that everyone questioned about the benefits of hot tubbing mentioned “being in nature”. Many of the respondents said that they went in every day. Using the tub was the only way they could find their “balance” again and it was hot tubbing outdoors that was the key. While in the tub they experienced the rustling trees and bubbling water that is now found to be so important to our ability to focus and maintain memory.

Feeling unbalanced and over whelmed by  urban life? Take a hot tub soak outdoors. Daily renewal is an important aspect of brain health-now validated by a scientific study. Hot tub soaking is more than a few minutes of “feeling good”-it’s vital to health.
