Squirrels in the Hot Tub, Oh My!

Squirrels in the hot tub? Hold on to your bird-feeders, everyone, because October is Squirrel Awareness Month! Whether you consider them pets or pest, it’s hard not to be aware of these fuzzy fiends who are most active right now collecting nuts for winter.

There is a truly mind-boggling amount of information on squirrels floating around out there. If you can’t get enough of these bushy-tailed creatures and want to educate yourself further, visit the October is Squirrel Awareness month site and you’ll find enough squirrel lore to keep you busy for a very long time.

How am I going to link squirrels and hot tub soaking? Easy! Read this story from Olympic Hot Tub Company customer, Larry Jacobson of Seattle:

“Squirrels know me as Mr. Peanuts for my generous (at least I think so) offerings of peanuts. One fine Sunday in October with the sun back lighting my large tulip tree, we settled into the spa with beers in hand to enjoy the beauty of blue skies, golden leaves, and crisp air. “Ahhh – just right”.

It wasn’t long before my furry peanut-eaters showed up for my usual offerings. The thought occurred to me that sometime we might have company in the spa. Just a thought. Suddenly, one squirrel began chasing another and in the middle of “uh oh”, the lead squirrel with the chaser in hot pursuit flew over the spa edge…and… into the spa! Squirrels have big eyes but I’ve never seen larger when they realized the spa cover wasn’t in place. “Splash…Splash”.

Squirrels aren’t good swimmers-something I learned then, and without being able to claw their way up the spa sides were goners unless Mr. Peanuts came to their rescue. I lifted the first one out while the other seemed to scuba dive (without the tanks) in the other direction. Yep, I got that one out, too, and two squirrels, drenched to the bone, scurried off to wherever they go leaving wet prints behind.

I have the usual chemicals, but no “Squirrel Down”.  Can you advise me Olympic Hot Tub Company?”

Uh, Larry…stop being so generous with the peanuts.

Olympic Hot Tub Customers Rave Their Tiger River Sumatran Spa and Olympic's Service Department

It always makes my day to receive an email from a satisfied owner.  Here’s one I received yesterday:

Hello Alice…I would like to express my appreciation to Olympic Hot Tub Company’s Service Department. On several occasions I have talked to Dennis (Olympic’s service coordinator) and he has been extremely helpful answering questions and providing support. Dennis is friendly, patient and knows your products well. Please pass on a ‘Job Well Done’ to Dennis and the staff. That’s Dennis above.

On a personal note, I would like to share that we have enjoyed both Sumatran spas (photo at left-one of our most popular small spas) we have owned over the years. We owned one in California and bought our second one when we moved to Lacey. Now that we are retired, the joy of relaxation is multiplied after a day of strenuous activity. Also, enjoy your Web site and Blog section.

Regards,
Larry and Kenda Varney
Lacey, Washington

Thanks to Larry & Kenda for writing. Dennis and the staff at the service center earn many raves from customers and we’re always glad to receive more. We always appreciate customer feedback and have passed on their good words! I’m so glad that Larry & Kenda like the blog, too. :-)

WANT SOFT SKIN AFTER HOT TUBBING? SilkBalance IS THE WAY TO GO

Hello One and All,
Just wanted to let you know we used the SilkBalance for the first time March 6th.  What an AWESOME product for the spa and our skin. Over the past several months, my skin would break out every time I would use the spa. Using SilkBalance tonight my skin did not break out or itch. What a relief as I was about to give up using our spa because of this skin problem. Last week I went to my doctor and he gave me a prescription that cleared up my skin and tonight was the ultimate test. SilkBalance passed with a perfect 10.
Even Dean said he could tell his skin felt moister when he got out. The picture is of him in the hot tub tonight with a bright moon and two thumbs up for SilkBalance. Thank you for choosing this product for your customers. Y’all Rock and SilkBalance is AWESOME.
Happy Customers,
Mary Louise and Dean
Onalaska, WA

What a great letter.  There are thousands of hot tub owners who found they couldn’t soak because of dry skin and know have found that they can use the tub again for the relaxation they need. Mary Louise and Dean aren’t the only Hot Spring Spa owners who’ve made the switch to SilkBalance. We’re selling more and more bottles every day to owners across the country.  If you’re not using SilkBalance in your hot tub, you’re trying to maintain your hot tub water the hard way.  You can have crystal clear, clean water AND soft skin with no mixing or testing by adding 4 oz of SilkBalance once a week and a small amount of sanitizer. You don’t need to soak in a vat of chemicals any longer! What are you waiting for?? Natural water care for your spa or hot tub is here.   To switch to SilkBalance you’ll need a one-time purge of the plumbing lines in your hot tub and a hot tub with 24 hour circulation. HOT TUB OWNER SAYS SOAKING ENDED HER BACK PAIN-NO MORE PAIN MEDICATION NEEDED FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP!

I just received the following email from a happy Hot Spring spa owner. When I met her at a luncheon two weeks ago, she told me how much she loved her hot tub and how much benefit she’d received from soaking. She never misses a day. Now the only time she has to take pain pills for her back pain is when she’s traveling and doesn’t have access to a hot tub. Read her story:

Hi Alice: It was nice to meet you at the GSBA luncheon. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am with my Hot Spring Prodigy model hot tub. I had heard from a friend who suffered from back pain that a hot tub was the best thing he ever purchased. I have a birth defect in my spine and as I’m aging my vertebrae is deteriorating and so causing very serious pain. I’ve been to pain doctors and surgeons – the pain doctors could only help so much and surgery is out of the question. Since I had to take a pretty good dose of a narcotic pain killer (which made me ill) to help me sleep, I could not imagine a hot tub could help me at all. However, I finally did purchase the hot tub and can’t tell you how happy I am. I use the tub every night and it relaxes me so much that I don’t have to take pain killers at all to fall asleep. I hardly can believe it myself. Now the only time I need pain medication is when I’m away from my hot tub when traveling.

I want to especially thank Don Riling, Olympic Hot Tub Company Sales Manager, for his patience in urging me to make a purchase. He stuck with me for several years before I finally bought one. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, why didn’t I do it sooner?!

Sincerely,

Mary Klein, Seattle WA

Thanks to Mary for writing. I’m always glad to hear from happy customers, but the specifics of her particular story about ending her back pain by soaking in her hot tub is of such use to others.  The amazing thing, too, is that she was willing to try the hot tub. I know so many people who are in pain 24/7 but learn to “live with it”. They can’t imagine not having it. The pain becomes part of their personality. There’s a lot of fear connected with giving up pain and I applaud Mary’s ability to take action to end hers.

Back pain is the #2 reason that people in the U.S. go to a doctor (after colds & flu).  If you or someone you know suffers from severe back pain, wouldn’t it be worth it to try a hot tub at home?  If the pain is diminished and you need less narcotic pain medication, wouldn’t you consider that a real victory?!!

We offer free test soaks-take a test soak late in the day to see if it diminishes any pain you have. Worth a try? I’d say so!

HAPPY CUSTOMER RAVES ABOUT OLYMPIC HOT TUB COMPANY'S SERVICE & PROFESSIONALISM

It’s always a good thing to start off a Monday with a glowing testimonial. Val Miller, Manager of our Seattle store, forwarded this email she received today.  It’s all the more prized because Mr. Johnsen purchased the hot tub sight unseen over the phone!  He wrote:

Hi Val,

Thanks so much for all your help with my recent hot tub purchase. We have spoken many times on the phone, but it is a testimony to your professionalism and ability to build trust with people that I purchased my hot tub sight-unseen after simply discussing it with you on the phone. Later, when my girlfriend and I had a chance to actually see the tub, it was exactly as you had described.

The delivery was scheduled and I hustled to construct a suitable deck in my back yard. You provided the name of a trusted builder so I could make sure I built the deck so it would easily support the tub weight, and he was extremely helpful. I was running late on the delivery day (they were right on time, dang it!) but I really appreciated the cooperative spirit of the delivery guys, who easily slid the tub onto the small scrap of finished portion of deck (all I could get done by the delivery date). They even waited around without complaint for 10 minutes as I placed the remaining three deck boards under where the tub was to go. The follow up after delivery was excellent also, and I have been singing Olympic’s praises to everyone I see. Good value, excellent service, and a quality product. Thanks again, and feel free to show this letter to any prospective client who is thinking of buying a tub from you. If they have questions, they can contact me
at the cell number below. (Phone number available upon request: alice@olympichottub.com)

Sincerely,

Dave

Mr. Johnsen purchased a Hot Spot Mallorca for his home on Bainbridge Island. It was installed in February and as you can tell from his email he’s been happily soaking ever since.

The photo at left shows the Mallorca. Hot Spot Spas are hot and ready for a quick soak any time. Just settle in, soak up the warmth, and relax as muscle aches and stress disappear. Choose from three models in the Hot Spot family, lean back, and truly relax, because you know your high-quality spa is from the makers of  Hot Spring® spas – the world’s number one selling brand. Once you own a Hot Spot Spa, you’ll wonder how you got through the day without it-just like Dave Johnsen.

HOT SPRING SPA OWNER USES HIS HOT TUB DAILY

Here’s an email I received on Monday from Karen in our Olympic Hot Tub Company Fife store:

I just had a water care customer in this morning who had purchased a Prodigy (Hot Spring Spa) from me. It’ll be 4 years in August. He’s an older gentleman, I’d say over (just guessing) 70 years old. He was asking about our new line and saying how much he loves his. I asked him if he would be willing to write down his feelings about Hot Spring and he did. The words aren’t anything I guess we haven’t heard before but his appreciation was so heartfelt… when I got to the bottom of his comments, I was quite moved… as I knew he really meant it.  I knew you’d appreciate reading what he had to say:

“I am on my second hot tub from Olympic Hot Tub Company. The first one was used for over 11 years. It is absolutely wonderful. The present one is essentially maintenance free. Only need to change the water once a year. The Everfresh sanitation system is wonderful and makes cleaning a breeze.

I use it daily and am not sure I would be here with out it.

Absolutely wonderful.”

HOT TUB WORTH EVERY PENNY-SAYS 7 YEAR OLD GRANDSON

This email was sent to me today from Karen in our Olympic Hot Tub Company Fife store. I thought the following was really adorable she said:

A customer was just here getting some water care products for her Hot Spring Spa and she was talking about her 7 year old grandson who was visiting at their home. If you can picture this…he was leaning back with his arms on the arm rests and his little chest out. And, and he said, “Gramma.. this was worth every penny we spent on it .. wasn’t it?”

She also told me how they are going to take a vacation to Disneyland with their grandchildren and stay at a hotel there.  This same grandson said…”I don’t think their hot tub is going to be anywhere nearly as nice as this one!!!!”  She said he would be quite the salesperson for our hot tubs!  :)   We hope he keeps up his enthusiasm and we’ll see him about a job in a few years!

We’ve seen a trend in grandparents buying a hot tub so their grandchildren would visit more often. In fact, that’s the reason the first buyer of a Hot Spring Spa from us, Nancy Pelly.  She bought one so her grandchildren would visit her and her husband at their new post retirement home in Seattle in 1982. Hot tubs were a very new product then, but Mrs. Pelly was quick to see that owing one would be a “grandchild magnet”. She was right!

Do your children or grandchildren love the tub?  Did you purchase a tub so your grandchildren would visit more often or your kids would stay home?  We’d love to hear your comments.

OLYMPIC'S HOT TUB COMPANY'S SERVICE? IT COULDN'T BE BETTER SAYS HAPPY CUSTOMER

Greetings Alice,

I just wanted to take time to share about my experience with your service dept. I noticed an inconsistent heating issue last Dec. during our cold and snow with my Hot Spring Spa Prodigy model.  It was new in 2000.

I drained and cleaned it the tub Feb. 7th.  I filled the tub, added chemicals, and closed the cover and ran the jets for approximately 15 minutes. All appeared normal until later in the day when I lifted the cover to find the water temp was still like the tap. I called your service center first thing Monday morning the 9th and spoke with Janet to explain my problem.  She was very pleasant and set an appt. for the 18th.

Olympic's Head Service Technician

Olympic's Head Service Technician

Your tech Reg, called me around noon on the 18th and upon his testing and trouble-shooting, explained my heater was dead. (Editor’s note: That’s Reg on the left holding the 2008 Bedrock Award given to him for being such a great asset to Olympic.)

I gave him the go ahead to replace the heater and if any other hoses, fittings, etc. were in need to just do it.  Reg was impressed with how everything looked and assured me that the heater was all that needed to be replaced.

I got home around 4:00 pm and the water temp was around 85.  At 8:30 p.m. it was right up to 102!  I took my tub and did feel the heater kick on after 25 minutes. It was great!  It was so nice to have the tub back and now it’s like new.  Should be good for another 8-9 years with this heater!!

I’m a happy customer, love my Hot Springs Spa. Your staff is A-1 in my book. The only down side to the above story- I went 10 days without tubbing.  It was really difficult.

Regards,

Jon Sheldahl, Shoreline, WA.

MY REPLY TO JON:

Hello Jon:

Thanks so much for your email! I really appreciate the feedback on our staff and your telling me of your love for your Hot Spring Spa. The only downside from our point of view, is that your Prodigy will probably last 20+ years and you won’t need a new one until then!  But, that’s the way it goes with Hot Spring Spas- reliable, durable and long-lasting.

In the meantime, for the few glitches, we have Reg and our other Service Techs to keep you in hot water.

Thanks again for sharing your experience. Thanks for your business and happy soaking.

Best wishes,

Alice Cunningham, Co-Owner, Olympic Hot Tub Company

PS: My husband and I used our Hot Spring Prodigy a lot during the December snow storms. (yes, that’s our model, too. We love it). Being in the hot water up to our necks as the snow fell was sheer bliss.

SAUNA AND EXERCISE EQUIPMENT AT HOME-BETTER THAN GOING TO A GYM

If you’re like most people, you want to exercise. Yes, you mean to exercise and get in shape. You just don’t have the time. It’s not convenient. It takes too much time and effort to get to the gym just to exercise. When your time is worth a lot and convenience means the difference between exercising or not, this letter from an Olympic Hot Tub Company Finnleo sauna owner will encourage you to add a home sauna.  Even if exercising is not at the top of your list, detoxifying all of the harmful chemicals from food and the environment that have nested in your body should be.
Read on:
Hey there, here are some pics of the room I put together to get into shape and stay healthy. As you know going to the local gym can be a bit of a chore and  not that fun when it is crowded.  Having to wait for a  weight machine or a treadmill.  Also, the time it takes to get there and undress and dress and shower and deal with others crowding around you. It just was not motivating anymore. After adding up the cost of   monthly fees and gas and time, I decided to invest in a home gym with a sauna made by Finnleo sold at Olympic Hot Tub Company. I purchased a home gym and a Elliptical machine, along with the Passport series traditional Finnleo sauna. After my workout I jump into my sauna and enjoy the steam and heat that cleanses the body of toxins, and relaxes the muscles after the hard workout. It takes about 15 minutes to get a to about  170 degrees. I am very happy with my purchase and know that if I ever move,  that this series of sauna is portable. Meaning that it is easy to take apart and move. I want to thank the salesmen at Olympic Hot Tub (Brandon and Steve in the Everett store) for helping me choose the right one for me. I looked around the web and did not find anything close to price and quality. Now, when I wake up I look forward to using my gym and  sauna. Even before bed it is a nice treat. Thank you again.
James Malcolm
Seattle, Washington
Thanks, James for sharing your story.
Anyone else have a great sauna story to share?

BEST SERVICE DEPARTMENT AWARDED TO OLYMPIC HOT TUB COMPANY MANAGEMENT TEAM

BEST SERVICE DEPARTMENT AWARDED TO OLYMPIC HOT TUB COMPANY MANAGEMENT TEAM: Blair Osborn, Company President holding the plaque, Alice Cunningham, and Sales Manager, Don Riling on her left.

We are very pleased to announce that Olympic Hot Tub Company’s Service Department was awarded the “Top Service Department” award among all 450 Watkins Mfg. dealers worldwide (maker of Hot Spring Spas) at the Hot Spring dealer meeting in San Francisco last month. It is so gratifying to receive this award because it is based on knowledge, skill and customer satisfaction.  The selection criteria include: a high degree of  professionalism, high satisfaction level among our Hot Spring owners, and top rated aftermarket service. When a you purchase a hot tub, the last thing on your mind is service.  You expect your hot tub to run forever without a glitch.  We know that Watkins products are tops in the industry, but they are made by humans with parts from diverse manufacturers and they’re used by humans!  When your hot tub goes cold or won’t start, you might expect an instant on-site call.  They want to relax! And, Olympic Hot Tub Company wants you to be back in hot water as soon as possible. We’re fortunate to have such an outstanding group of technicians and inside service team who handle incoming calls, do the scheduling and keep parts ordered. Every member of the team is critical to the smooth operation of the department.

Olympic Hot Tub Company customers have it especially good and this award is proof!  We’re not only the #1 selling Hot Spring Spa dealer in the United States, we have the Best Service Department!

Thanks to everyone on our service team for earning this award.  Their dedication to seeing that each customer becomes an Olympic fan is legendary within the dealer network. There is nothing more gratifying than hearing everyone cheer when Olympic was announced as the winner of this award. We wish they all could have been there to receive this praise!
