I picked up my new Sunstar cover on December 4th and wow am I pleased!
When I brought it home it fit perfectly! I live in North Bend and we get some extreme weather conditions including strong foothill winds. The Sunstar cover tie down straps have held our cover secure even in gusts over sixty miles per hour. We also have wide temperature swings with colds in the teens and heat this last summer over one hundred degrees.

HOW TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR HOT TUB COVER? PROPER WATER CARE IS THE ANSWER

Good water care helps to assure a healthy hot tub for a healthy body. As you prepare for  winter, Fall is a great time to freshen up your spa cover-using 303 Protectant and doing a drain and refill of the water before winter. Your spa cover will last longer and be more durable if the vinyl is properly cared for and the water is properly balanced.

Apply one good conditioning treatment of 303 Protectant to preserve the vinyl against drying out from the harsh winter weather. Use it on the top vinyl, straps, handles and skirts.

If you close your spa for the winter, it is critical to have balanced water. Bad water chemistry can cause a smelly cover by springtime if the spa is continually closed and the pH is off.  It’s typically better to drain the spa and close it completely for winter.  This will involve draining plumbing lines as well as the spa itself.  If you’ve forgotten how to do this, email for help!

HOT TUB WATER CARE GOES “GREEN” WITH SeaKlear

Most people think of their hot tubs as alternative/ therapeutic vessels for wellness.   The last thing they want to think about is soaking in a vat full of chemicals.

In the last two years at Olympic Hot Tub Company we’ve made an effort to ‘go green’ with all of our water care products.

“Green” Water Treatment Program

Water care and water quality are central to our being green.  Our major product line was selected after extensive research to support our green philosophy: SeaKlearSpa water treatment products-especially formulated for spas NOT swimming pools. Big difference! Hint: Take a look at that bottle of dry chlorine you’re currently using for your spa. If it has a formula starting with “calcium’, it is WRONG for your spa! replace it immediately and use only a compound with the words “sodium dichlor” in your spa.

HOW TO EXPERIENCE “GREEN” WATER CARE FOR HOT TUBS

At Olympic Hot Tub Company we keep 7 different tubs fully operational in each of our stores. They are all full of water, heated and treated with our green water care products. And we encourage people to ‘test out’ the tubs. Our goal is for you the customer/ potential customer to know exactly what you will be purchasing-from an experiential and environmental standpoint.

No Smell: Many people comment on the fact that our showrooms do not ‘smell’ the way other showrooms do-and most showrooms only have 1 spa that is fully operational. They also comment on how quiet our showrooms are.  We want our customers to know that we have selected spa models that are quiet and do not pollute the air with noise the way some do. Our water treatment programs do not pollute the air with unpleasant smells-as there is no off-gassing into the air.

No wastewater: There are no harsh chemicals in our spa water so you can actually drain the spa water into your yard and do not have to worry about harming plants or animals. Some people drain their spas for cleaning and use the water to irrigate their lawns or vegetable gardens. Other people save the water in rain barrels for irrigating later. The water is even safe for animals to drink. We are promoting the importance of not wasting water or creating water that is not re-usable.

No skin smell/ irritation: When you try out one of our spas, you will get out without an odor on your skin unlike most spas. In fact, the SilkBalance water care that we use makes your skin feel softer! Sometimes we just ask people to put one hand in the tub for a few minutes, then pull it out and compare it to their other, dry hand. Everyone immediately notices that the hand from the treated spa feels softer than their dry hand.

OLYMPIC HOT TUB COMPANY DONATES RECYCLED CARDBOARD FOR EARTHCORPS’ HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECTS

Earthcorps is an amazing nonprofit that started right here in Seattle.  They recruit young people ages 18-25 from the US and all over the world to come here and learn about trail and habitat restoration.  The leaping salmon is their logo for this year as they restore watershed habitat for salmon runs. They work through the cold and rainy winters on steep slopes and stinging nettle and blackberry infested areas.  Over 850 young people have graduated from the program in the past 10 years and gone back to their homes in Mongolia, Ghana, India, Pakistan, Ecuador and Kenya to name just a few.  They and the US graduates have gone on to leadership positions in environmental efforts in their countries.

You’re probably thinking what does this have to do with hot tubs? I first heard of Earthcorps in 1998 when they came to restore the ravine behind our home. The neighbors on the ravine had all pitched in, but we didn’t have the expertise and skill to work on steep slopes. Earthcorps crew members did. To my surprise they used cardbard boxes to eradicate (control) blackberry.  First they hacked the blackberry to the ground-grueling, tiresome work. Then they dug the biggest root balls out. Finally they placed cardboard boxes flat on the ground, pinned them down with stakes and covered over with bark and mulch.  In 6 months or so, the area was ready to be planted in native species..right through the cardboard. Using the cardboard is ingenious! It blocks the light so the blackberry can’t grow and the native plants have a chance to survive with out competition from blackberries.

The cardboard comes from our Olympic Hot Tub cover boxes!  Giving the cover boxes to Earthcorps is only one of many things we do to reduce, reuse and recycle. Olympic chooses to be green!

We’ve been supplying Earthcorps with as much of the cardboard from our hot tub covers as they can take since that first meeting. They love the big boxes which are approximately 3′ x 7′.  What a relief to cover such a big area after using boxes from grocery stores which cover a much smaller area. The boxes are very sturdy. And, if there is a secret to getting rid of invasive blackberry, Earthcorps using this method, has found it.

So-a win/win. The cardboard doesn’t go to a landfill; Earthcorps has essential material for their restoration efforts at no cost and together we have seen restoration efforts blossom all over Seattle and the Eastside. It doesn’t get any better than that!

This fan letter from an Olympic hot tub owner says it all.  SilkBalance has been a skin saver during our recent snows and bad weather.  Read on:
