Hot Tub Bliss is written to connect you with all things from “ahhh” to “aHa”. The “ahhhs” are the sounds that escape when you sink into the hot swirling waters after a long day. That hot water is so soothing and healing that letting out a big  sigh  is the only way to stand the pleasure.

The “aHas”-are those ideas and split-second inspirations that bubble up when you’re relaxed. Inspiration and “brainstorms” have always been an important part of hot tub soaking. The “staycations” you enjoy every day in your own backyard hot tub can bring quiet and sometimes awe inspiring pleasure. So, do share your “aHas!”

And, for fun, tell me about the fabulous vacations you’ve taken with your Olympic Hot Tub Company rubber duck in hand. Some of your ducks have seen the Seven Wonders of the World, and we have photos from hundreds of exotic places to prove it. Remember to pack a duck in your suitcase and take it along on your next vacation. Place the duck in interesting spots and send the photos to us. We’d love to see how far these ducks travel.

Derek Scott Olk bought a hot tub from Olympic as a surprise for his wife to celebrate their wedding anniversary.  He’s in the army and about to go to a posting in Korea. He wanted a very, very special gift for his wife.

Exelane Lanzaga in the Lacey Olympic Hot Tub store arranged for a surprise delivery, with red bows.  Here’s what happened said Exelane:  “No one was able to take pictures because the surprise happened so fast. There was a big sign on poster board on the front door to follow the blue arrows (in photo) then another big sign on the sliding glass door  that he loved her very much and that outside was something special to help her relax.  A new hot tub with red bow and red balloons!!! They couldn’t wait to use it so they went in at 70 degrees!!! And stayed in for about 30 minutes.  And they have already used it 2 more times yesterday along with her mother and father.”

This is one anniversary the couple will never forget!

I had a towel on my head and Blair had a baseball cap. His favorite? “Cascade Land Conservancy”. The water felt delicious. There’s no other word for it. Delicious! The perfect temperature, the perfect silkiness (thanks to SilkBalance) and the perfect jets massaging tired shoulders. What a treat!

It rains in Seattle…that’s why hot tub soaking here is so great. Don’t let a little rain stop you from hot tubbing. Soaking in the rain is hot tub bliss.

Leave a note for your loved one suggesting a Valentine’s Day rendezvous ..in your hot tub! Light candles, play some quiet music and enjoy each others company alone under the stars and moonlight in the privacy of your own backyard. Drink chilled sparkling water during your soak. Hot chocolate is another great choice. Chocolate covered strawberries are a great treat for eating in the tub.

Lately my husband and I have been eating Emily’s chocolate covered fortune cookies. Yummy and you get a fortune to ponder and laugh about. Have your favorite bottle of wine chilling to drink after soaking. Proseco is a real treat after hot tub soaking.

Looking for an aphrodisiac? Skip the heavy meal with too much protein and carbs. Dark chocolate truffles are your best bet!  And Fran’s Chocolates right here in Seattle makes truffles to die for!  Eat a few.  Savor each one. It doesn’t get any better.

It’s not the money spent on a Valentine’s Day gift-it’s the thought.

Since this week is National Marriage Week it’s a good time to think about nurturing your relationship. I know, I know. When you say that to men, they freeze and immediately tune out.  But, the thought that you have remembered and wanted to do something special for your spouse or partner goes a long way towards nurturing your relationship. You don’t have to “talk about your relationship”.

If you already have a hot tub think about new towels, new fluffy terry cloth robes combined with a new spa scent such as Being or Magma  Onsen Beppu. Packaged together they may not be diamonds, but a Valentine’s gift that will signify how much you value your romantic time together.

Olympic has sold a number of  Hot Spring Spas this year for Valentine’s gifts that will be a complete surprise to a spouse or partner. We’ve been instructed not to call before hand, just show up with red bow and that we will. What a truly romantic gesture that will ensure romance stays alive in that relationship for years to come!

Christmas Eve after we’ve unwrapped our presents, we head to our Hot Spring Spa to talk and share our memories of Christmases past, our loved ones and our hopes for the future. The chill air is a perfect contrast with the hot water swirled by jets. It may be clear skies tonight-fingers crossed-so we can watch for satellites, shooting stars and, the only constellation we know: the Big Dipper.  Maybe share a drop of Proseco. We’ll heat the towels in the dryer and they’ll still be warm when we get out.  It’s truly hot tub bliss! What better place to celebrate the season and give thanks for all we have?

While the moon is always something special, the harvest moon, visible all of this coming week, is the most special of all. It is the subject of everything from epic poetry to popular songs. What better place to view it than from the hot tub? Don’t miss this opportunity to soak and bask in the beautiful harvest moon.

What makes the harvest moon so special? Mainly it’s the path it’s following this week. The moon always travels close to the ecliptic, the path of the sun and planets in the sky, but this week the ecliptic is at a particularly shallow angle to the horizon. The result is that the moon never gets too far above the horizon all night long for a number of nights in a row, putting it literally “in your face.”

There is a well known but poorly understood optical illusion known as the “moon illusion,” whereby the moon, when low in the sky, appears much larger than it does when high overhead. This really is an illusion, as you can see for yourself by blocking the moon with a finger held at arm’s length: the moon is no bigger on the horizon than overhead.

When the moon is low in the sky, it is also strongly subject to appearing yellow, orange, or red due to air pollution, particularly caused by forest fires this time of year.

There will be a succession of nights with a bright moon low on the eastern horizon, lighting up the land just as the sun sets opposite it. This gives a few extra hours of light to farmers out harvesting their crops. Hence the name: harvest moon.

The harvest moon, while beautiful to look at, also presents some great photo opportunities.The trick to capturing the harvest moon in a photograph is first, to zoom in with your telephoto lens to make the moon appear larger, and secondly, to underexpose the picture by a couple of stops, to darken the landscape, saturate the colors, and expose the moon properly.

Before you head out to watch the sunset together, why not gather some of the finger foods that go well with soaking in your Hot Spring Spa such as sliced turkey, sliced roast beef, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, shrimp cocktail, and some bottled water, soda or iced tea. All available in the produce section or deli case of your local supermarket. Anything that doesn’t require cooking will be welcome!

Sustain your romantic mood from sharing a sunset, twilight, and the appearance of the first stars of the evening, by saying those little words everyone loves to hear,”Let’s go out for dinner” or “Let’s order take out!”

Exchange neck and shoulder rubs with each other to enhance the relaxation. Taking turns helping each other release tension is a great way to prolong the wonderful feeling you’ll have from hot tub soaking!
