True Love! Huband Buys a Hot Tub for His Wife to Celebratre Their Anniversary

Derek Scott Olk bought a hot tub from Olympic as a surprise for his wife to celebrate their wedding anniversary.  He’s in the army and about to go to a posting in Korea. He wanted a very, very special gift for his wife. Exelane Lanzaga in the Lacey Olympic Hot Tub store arranged for a surprise delivery, with red bows.  Here’s what happened said Exelane:  “No one was able to take pictures because the surprise happened so fast. There was a big sign on poster board on the front door to follow the blue arrows (in photo) then another big sign on the sliding glass door  that he loved her very much and that outside was something special to help her relax.  A new hot tub with red bow and red balloons!!! They couldn’t wait to use it so they went in at 70 degrees!!! And stayed in for about 30 minutes.  And they have already used it 2 more times yesterday along with her mother and father.”

This is one anniversary the couple will never forget!

June is Anniversary month for many couples.  If you want to make a big splash on your wedding anniversary and keep the romance alive arrange for delivery of  a new hot tub from Olympic Hot Tub Company!~ Making the hot tub a surprise is even better.

Thinking of Buying a Hot Tub Online-Beware Those “Deals” ARE too Good To Be True

My guest blogger today is Caleb Husong, Sales Associate in the Seattle Olympic Hot Tub Company store. Caleb’s extensive experience in the hot tub industry makes him an expert on the perils of buying a hot tub online. He’s heard the horror stories and soothed the sobs of unhappy purchasers who return the tubs they bought online and buy one from Olympic.

“Everyone wants a good deal on a new hot tub. But when does that so-called “deal” become more and less than you bargained for?  There are many online retailers where you can purchase a hot tub, and you would think that you’re saving money in the process.

Sadly most of the time that is not the case.  Here are just a few things to consider before taking the plunge into a new hot tub you find online.  Be well informed before you buy!

If the seller you’re considering does not have a local brick and mortar store, watch out!

The first thing to consider when looking into purchasing from an online retailer is ”can I sit in the hot tub before I purchase it?” Since most online retailers operate out of state, you are out of luck on this one.  By far the most important feature of your hot tub is comfort.  If you cannot try the spa you hope to purchase and relax in, it is not worth the time and expense.  The bottom line is this; you need to try your new tub out before you sign on the dotted line. I mean, WET, with water so you can feel the comfort of the seats, the incline of the back, the jets and comfort for your ultimate enjoyment and, especially important, you want to “hear” the quiet. The only quiet spa on the market today is Hot Spring. Don’t get stuck with a loud, chugger that will wake the neighbors and disturb your sleep as well.  Trust me, you’ll be glad you took a test soak in the models you’re considering!

One question that no one likes to ask is “what if I do not like my tub and I want to return it?” Unfortunately there are too many times that this question is asked because of bad service or tub that is uncomfortable or it just plain doesn’t work!  There are many ways to avoid having to return in the first place; make sure that you try the new hot tub out for comfort and fit and that the dealer that you are dealing with has their own service department.  Doing both of these will save you time, headache and a restocking fee.  Also, try and avoid “as-is” or “clearance” models, these can have a clause in the purchase agreement that states that there is no return policy for those models.  Always chose a local dealer with a good reputation.

The next question is “does my purchase include delivery to the final resting place for the hot tub or just to the end of my driveway?” No one wants to break his back trying to get a hot tub that could weigh between 400-1100 pounds into his backyard!  Gone are the days of offering a few friends all the beer they can drink to move your new spa and party at the same time.   If a company is proud enough to sell a hot tub, they should be proud to install it as well.

Also consider if something does go wrong, “who will service my new investment?” A sub-contracted is usually the one who ends up making the service call and the repair can take weeks or months to complete.  An out-of-state retailer will not be able to service you tub directly so you may end up with a novice attempting to repair the complex systems that are inside your recent investment.  Only trust a certified spa technician that is trained in your brand to work on your hot tub. And, you want that repairperson to be local!

No matter whom you purchase your new hot tub from, there are some additional questions that you should ask before you sign on the dotted line.  How long has the manufacturer been in business? You want a hot tub from a manufacturer who has been in business at least 30 years and has a solid reputation.

Is there a local physical retail/service location for that particular brand of hot tub? You want a local dealer with an excellent reputation! Checking Google Reviews before you shop is a good way to find a reputable dealer.

If something does go wrong, how can I get service on my hot tub? You deserve to have a local number AND have a repair person who’s been factory trained and certified as well as being employed by the dealer who sold you the tub come to your home!  No third party service! You will wait forever and it may never be repaired correctly. And, do not accept a “warranty” that requires you to ship either the hot tub or broken parts to a factory out of state.

What is the length of the warranty and what does it include? 5 years parts and labor and 7 years on the shell is the standard to ask for. There should be no disclaimers for water improper water chemistry on the heater! And, don’t believe a lifetime warranty is the best thing ever-it’s only 7 years in Washington state.

What should I expect to pay for energy consumption? You must insist on full foam insulation to keep the energy cost to a minimum. Unless the seller can produce third party independent testing results (not just their estimates), avoid purchasing! Typical rates for Hot Spring Spa’s Sovereign model in Puget Sound, hot 24/7 and used every day for 30 minutes (in a standardized test) were under $20/month.

What types of water care systems are available for my hot tub? Salt sanitizing systems are the new standard for automated, easy water care that’s environmentally safe. Natural products like SilkBalance should be available for whatever you purchase. Avoid hot tubs that use bromine, chlorine and biguanide for sanitizing the water not only because they irritate the skin and eyes, but also for the hassle you’ll go through to keep the water clean and in balance.

The best place to purchase your new hot tub will always be a local company that has a long-standing relationship with the manufacturer and a product that you will enjoy for years to come.”

Thanks to Caleb for his article on the perils of buying a hot tub online.  In the end, quality pays. The memory of a good deal will fade when you’re stuck with a hot tub that isn’t comfortable, costs hundreds to heat and is hard to maintain.

Massage Therapists Relax Their Clients in the Hot Tub Before a Massage

Massage therapists take note-a hot tub in your practice is a GREAT thing!  As Kim and Jim Hartley say, putting your clients into a hot tub before the massage will make the massage easier for you and better for the client! Here’s a YELP review from two massage therapists and  Olympic Hot Tub  owners in Olympia:

Hello!  My husband and I are Hawaiian massage therapists working out of our home in SW Olympia, WA.  We have had several hot tubs over the last 20 years – all purchased from the Olympic Hot Tub Company. We recently purchased a new larger model. (A new Tiger River Sumatran made by the makers of Hot Spring Spas). We have been very happy with their tubs, products and the way they honor their warrantees!  We encourage our massage clients to relax in the tub for 10 minutes before their massage and that does half our work for us. We especially like the systems of powerful jets that are more than just “Champagne Bubbles”.  Kim & Jim Hartley – Heartspire Hawaiian Massage. .

I asked Kim & Jim if they’d like to offer a special to Hot Tub Bliss readers. They said yes!  “We would be glad to offer $5 off our one hour lomilomi massages (reg. $70) and $10 off a one and 1/2 hour version (reg. $120).  We studied Swedish massage as well but our specialty is lomilomi.  We will offer a $25 discount to Hot Tub Bliss readers for any of our three day lomilomi classes as well (reg. $425).  We are nationally certified teachers offering the continuing education credits that WA state requires yearly.”

If you haven’t tried a lomilomi massage, you must try it.  The relaxation experience of lomilomi coupled with a soak in their hot tub with its powerful jets beforehand is heaven.  Give Heartspire Hawaiian Massage a try.

If you go for regular massages and your massage therapist does not have a hot tub, send them to Olympic. You’ll both benefit enormously.

HOT TUB MEDITATION

Having a hot tub can be a sensational thing, in every sense of the word. The warm water has a  way of rejuvenating all the senses, and makes a long and exhausting day melt away in just minutes. For stress relief, along with many other health benefits, using a hot tub can used as a way to “get back in tune” on a daily basis.

Being able to calm a busy mind is an excellent skill to have, but it may take a lifetime to master (think Tibetan monks). There are many different ways of controlling the mind’s continual chatter.  And, they all take practice.  Meditating in the hot tub is something that many of our Olympic Hot Tub Company customers tell us gives them a head start on their meditation practice.

When your feet touch the warm water, and your body feels the heat and the motion of the jets, it’s not difficult at that moment to stop thinking, and to start focusing on the feeling of the water on the body.  It’s its own meditation, in many ways. Even if you start with your eyes closed to “feel the water” it’s a way of centering that can have great benefits.

There are thousands of guided meditations that come from every spiritual tradition. It’s not surprising when we consider how water is viewed in different societies that hot water meditation would be of interest.  Water is a source of clarity, of purity, it speaks to the greater powers and pulls in the universe, and it’s used to wash things until they are transformed. The essence of water is simply beautiful, and it’s a great beginning point as a subject of contemplation, which can lead to wonderful, calming results to mind and body.

If you’re considering hot water meditation, do limit your sessions to 15-20 minutes at 102 degrees. Staying in too much longer will be enervating and not calming to the mind.

If you’ve tried or are doing hot tub meditation, let me know how it’s going for you!

Use Feng Shui to create a restful setting for your hot tub

The ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui may not spring to mind when you’re considering where to put your hot tub.  But the principles of balance and flow embodied in Feng Shui are also good principles of design from any point of view.

Feng Shui is an art form that has been practiced in the Far East for over five thousand years. Feng means “Wind” and Shui means “Water” and Feng Shui is the “art of living in harmony with the earth”. When we live our lives in balance and harmony, we are filled with happiness, contentment, and abundance.

Feng Shui is a Taoist based vision of the natural world; alive and filled with “Chi”, or energy. The ancient Chinese believed the land’s energy (chi) could be positive or negative (yin or yang).

Yin and Yang are two opposites in the Living Universe. Yin is represented by Black and Yang is White. Classic examples of yin and yang are; night versus day; short versus tall; and male versus female. While they are opposite, it is also true that one cannot exist without the other. Without night there is no day and without black there would be no white… Thus, yin and yang energies are constantly interacting with each other in our daily lives, practitioners of the yin-yang concept advocate the need of a balance the two forces. This is where The Art of Feng Shui fits in. ( Sources: FengShui.About.com, UnderstandingOccults.com)

These basic ideas can help shape your space into a restful, pleasing setting for your hot tub:

  • Avoid rushing water – a gentle spill is preferable. Like in the water features on Hot Spring Spas.
  • Hang wind chimes for calm and relaxation.
  • Do not arrange objects with their corners pointing toward important areas.
  • Avoid sharp objects pointing upward – especially tall sharp objects such as poles.
  • Concentrate on balance – warm and cool, soft and hard – in materials, color, shapes, and even scale.
  • Combine the opposing elements of fire and water. A fire pit is the perfect way to balance your hot tub and add that fire element.
  • Avoid straight lines of transit – let your paths and streams twist and wind.

The more soothing and in harmony and balance your hot tub setting is, the more you’ll use it. Consider adding some Feng Shui principles to your hot tub landscape.

Hot Tubbing in the Rain

It was raining hard as we soaked in the hot tub last night. The Duke/Butler game had just ended and we needed a way to relax.  (What a game!)

I had a towel on my head and Blair had a baseball cap. His favorite? “Cascade Land Conservancy”. The water felt delicious. There’s no other word for it. Delicious! The perfect temperature, the perfect silkiness (thanks to SilkBalance) and the perfect jets massaging tired shoulders. What a treat!

It rains in Seattle…that’s why hot tubbing here is so great. Don’t let a little rain stop you from hot tubbing. Soaking in the rain is hot tub bliss.
Where do you go to relax?
