HOT TUB IS A TRANSCENDING EXPERIENCE-ENTHUSIASTIC OWNER USES HIS HOT TUB 3 TIMES A WEEK OR MORE

Everyday we hear from our Olympic hot tub owners about their hot tub experiences. Most people say, “It’s great!” or “Love it!”.  Rarely do we receive a comment so expressive and eloquent as that from Olympic Hot Spring owner Tom Collins of Gig Harbor, Washington.

While in our Fife store Saturday he relayed the following to Karen Sorrels, his original sales person:

“We use our hot tub at least 3 times a week and sometimes more… usually twice on the weekend… and every time… EVERY TIME….. we get into the water, it is a transcending experience, taking us to another place…
It’s a moment when all the world goes away and we are just here in this moment and relaxed. It doesn’t matter that you’re at home on your deck- you are for that moment just carried away to another place.  We would never be without our hot tub.”

That is true hot tub bliss. And, that’s why I am in the hot tub business-to provide that kind of experience to as many people as possible on a daily basis.   Thank you, Tom, for expressing so well what I’ve known for 32 years.  Getting in the hot tub changes the way you feel and does take you to “another place”.

Karen mentioned, too, that he always includes aromatherapy as part of the hot tub experience. Tom uses Being

-our wonderful line of aromatherapy scents especially formulated for hot tubs and spas. Try Being in your hot tub for the ultimate “luxury spa” experience and “being” in another place.

SOAKING IN THE HOT TUB ON A WINDY NIGHT

It gets dark so late now that we were in the hot tub at 9:15 with a sky that was dramatically lit like this. The wind was really blowing across our roof top deck. I imagined white caps on the hot tub surface. Looking over at the 10′ aluminum ladder lying on its side on our roof top deck, I thought to myself that ladder looks really tacky, but what a lifesaver.  It will be here forever in case of an “emergency”.  On a similarly windy night a few years ago, the wind blew so hard that the door to the deck slammed shut locking us out on the roof in the tub with nothing but towels between us and the elements.  Being totally in the buff, we didn’t want to call to passersby or neighbors for help.  We have a key hidden outside and could have asked someone to get it, open our front door, come up stairs and rescue us. But, modesty and feeling ridiculous prevented us from yelling for help. Blair got out of the tub and shivering in the buff lowered the ladder to the entryway and climbed down.  Did I mention it was 42 degrees out? Brrrr. Blair found the key and came upstairs to unlock the door. My hero! For further insurance, I always use a door stop now!

Share your stories-ridiculous or sublime with us.  Once you own a hot tub, you “get it”-the change in your everyday life. You feel so much better-from soaking in the hot jetted water; from making time for yourself. You sleep better and your relationship is better because you have that shared time with your partner. Just the two of you away from distractions where you’re able to have real talks with each other-in the hot tub.

That’s hot tub bliss!

APRIL IS COUPLE APPRECIATION MONTH-A GREAT TIME FOR HOT TUB SOAK

We were bobbing (lollying really) in the our Hot Spring Spa last night and enjoyed having SilkBalance in the water. The the water really does feel different and I no longer have dry skin. What a relief!

I was feeling depressed by the weather. It has been high 45 degrees and rain for weeks, months. My husband didn’t say a word during my grousing and observed the crankiness for what it was-temporary. Soon after we got in the tub-you know how the water and jets just grab you and change your mood?-I was fine again. I appreciate him so much and know I don’t need a month to remind me!

But, I love zany holidays so thought I’d share.  Even if it is not your significant other’s birthday, anniversary, or some zany holiday they made up, you could still recognize April 1-30th as Couple Appreciation Month. Use this time during the month of April to show thanks for each others love and emotional support.  It’s a  time to remember to reinforce and celebrate your relationship.

Let your loved one know just how special and appreciated they are and how much you value them this month.   Making the time to talk in the hot tub is always a terrific way to renew your connection to each other. And the gift of SilkBalance available online from Olympic Hot Tub Company for your hot tub would be really appreciated.

MIDNIGHT IN THE HOT TUB-GREETING THE NEW YEAR

Tonight’s the night for our yearly ritual. We soak in the tub with a glass of bubbly and celebrate our good fortune.  We can hear the bells & horns and see tips of fireworks  across the lake from our rooftop Hot Spring Spa. Safe, warm and away from the traffic, it’s just the two of us. We toast the year to come and wish for another year of health and happiness, continued good fortune, a great business, family & friends.  Here’s to all of you hot tubbers who are doing the same tonight: Happy New Year! May all of your wishes come true.

This is the Dream.

This is the Dream we carry through the world

that something fantastic will happen

that it has to happen

that time will open by itself

that doors shall open by themselves

that the heart will find itself open

that mountain springs will rise up

that the dream will open itself

that we will one early morning

slip into a harbor

we have never know before.

Thanks to Robert Bly for this translation of the poem from the late Norwegian poet Olav Hauge.

That sums up my feeling about the hot tub: dreams are dreampt and feelings felt and explored like no where else on earth.  We wouldn’t be without our dream machine!

Happy New Year! From all of us at Olympic Hot Tub Company.

HOT TUB DELIVERIES IN THIS SNOW? YES! SOAKING IN A SNOWSTORM

Holiday cheer-that’s tea by the hot tub-brought by our friendly, ready for any weather delivery crew! Want your new hot tub by New Year’s Eve? We’re ready to deliver it for you!

I just got an email from an Olympic Hot Tub Company customer about hot tubbing in the snow:

We are really enjoying our hot tub. Good way to warm up when it’s so darn cold. (My feet get like ice. Is it because they are so far away from my heart? Do short women have warm feet?)

The first day it snowed – we suited up and headed out to the hot tub. It is such a rush to be in  the freezing air one minute and up to your neck in hot water the next!!

We caught our breaths, laid back with the winter sun in our faces, snow glistening on the branches above our heads. Keith turned to me and said ”this is the moment hot tub owners look forward to all year. I mean,  isn’t this what’s it all about?”

I told him he sounded like a commercial!

But he’s right. No matter how wonderful it is to soak under the stars in the summer or to a chorus of peeper frogs in the spring- the first soak after the first snowfall is magical.

She’s so right about magical. Saturday night my husband and I got in our rooftop Hot Spring Spa as the snow fell.
We live on a steep hill and even at 11PM we could hear people skiing and sledding down the hill laughing all the way. The snow was so wet we had to wear hats-Blair in an old felt cowboy hat I’d had from a costume party years ago; I in a Minne Pearl straw number I use to keep the sun off while gardening.  We were a sight.
But the water was heavenly, the snow on the trees magical and we had a wonderful time.  What a perfect way to end the day.
Did anyone else take a  soak in the snowstorm?  I’d love to hear about it.   Anyone making snow angels? I was tempted, but didn’t want to give up the enveloping warmth that takes over your body after soaking in the cold.  I hear there’s more snow on the way. Stay warm in your hot tubs.  And, if you don’t have one yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!

YOU'VE GOTTA HAVE yu

As soon as the weather gets chilly, most people in Japan turn to thoughts of yu (湯, hot water). The saying “yu ga ichiban no kusuri” “hot water is the best medicine is a popular maxim in Japan where hot springs have warmed people for centuries. Many people in rural areas remember the slogan “nihonjin niwa ofuroga aru” which translates to “when all else fails the Japanese will still have their baths”. For hundreds of years and way into the 20th century, rural Japanese never got a lot to eat, but in the darkest times a soak was always possible. To this day, in many reigons people will say “itadakimasu” (the salutary phrase that precedes a meal-like Julia Child saying “Bon Appetit” before a meal) before taking a bath, especially when they’re about to do so in the home of a friend or relative. As for immersing oneself in an onsen (温泉, hot spa), many perceive it as a gochisō (ごちそう, repast) and will often say that a good onsen session is equivalent to a full meal.

There’s nothing like yu (hot water) to combat the blues and keep the body warm and supple. It’s a daily custom whose pleasure never dims with time. But after learning about yu and the concept of considering hot water bathing as a full meal, I’m adding weight loss to my thoughts about hot tubbing! Thinking of hot tubbing as the equivalent of a full meal is a great way to avoid calorie overload during the holidays. Soak before supper! I guarantee you’ll eat less. Happy Thanksgiving!

REDBOOK MAGAZINE PUBLISHES TIP: SOAK UP THE LOVE

Olympic Hot Tub Company Hot Spring Spa owner Nancy Juetten of Bellevue, WA sent her best tip to Redbook Magazine for connecting with her husband and keeping the intimacy and love flowing between them while managing a teenage son and two busy careers:

Soak up the love: “My husband and I both work from home, so relaxed couple time is in short supply. To get away from all of our day-to-day tasks, we take ‘breaks’ in our hot tub. Even if we’re soaking in silence, we can hold hands and be together in a lovely way that has nothing to do with being productive.”
Nancy Juetten, 46, Bellevue, WA

This is sound advice for all of us who during the holidays will be swept up in busyness and “to dos”. I know I’ve been so stressed during the holidays trying to get everything done that I forget what’s really important. Nancy’s suggestion is to keep it simple, keep it real and keep your relationship in balance thanks to the hot tub brings it all back to what’s most important. Sitting quietly holding hands in the hot tub is a beautiful picture. Thank you for sharing this insight, Nancy. Continued happy soaking!

MENTAL HEALTH-HOT TUB SOAKING OUTSIDE IS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT

Dr. Jules Pretty, at the Center for Environment and Society in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Essex, in England makes a strong case for “being in nature”. “Irrespective of where we come from in the world, it seems that the presence of living things makes us feel good. There are three levels of engagement with nature.

*The first is viewing nature, as through a window, or in a book, on television or in a painting.

*The second is being in the presence of nearby nature, which is incidental to some other activity, such as walking or cycling to work, or reading on a garden seat, and (we’ve added this one) soaking in a hot tub outdoors.

*The third level is active participation and involvement with nature, such as gardening, hiking or running.

There is now strong evidence that all these levels deliver mental health benefits. The levels with the most involvement deliver the most benefits.

A recent survey of Olympic Hot Tub Company’s Hot Spring Spa owners echoed Dr. Pretty’s research most strongly in regards to his second point of engagement with nature. All of the Hot Spring Spa owners surveyed reported immense pleasure, increased mental relaxation and peace of mind from soaking in their hot tubs outside. They all said that being in the presence of nature was the “frosting on the cake”, the “cherry on the sundae” that capped the experience and took it from the mundane to the sublime. It was the reason they rarely missed a night’s soaking. It was the reason why their own yards gained a bigger place in their lives. Outside soaking opened up a new appreciation of the previously unseen natural world. People mentioned owls, squirrels, raccoons, the wind, stars, the trees and far vistas. So in addition to the great physiological benefits, the mental/spiritual benefits were the most deeply moving.

From my own experience, I, too, have been profoundly moved by soaking in my roof top Hot Spring while viewing the stars and satellites (!), feeling the wind and the rain on my face and just letting go of all daily cares and worries. Plus I get my best ideas in the hot tub!
