From the office of Dr. Marcy L Street, East Lansing, MI Dr. Marcy Street of Doctor’s Approach Dermatology and Medical Spa, is an internationally known doctor and recognized medical expert, and a big proponent of far-infrared sauna used as a means to healthier living. She states, “There are many far-infrared products on the market for home use, but it’s important to find one from a well-established, reputable manufacturer. I recommend Finnleo’s Saunatec CarbonFlex(R) infrared system because, after years of pioneering far-infrared technology, they have engineered a product which offers complete, penetrating full-body coverage. These are well designed products that should provide years of enjoyment. My patients immediately feel the benefits from bathing in the sauna. Want Better Skin? Skip the Creams; Avoid Surgery – Get a Sauna

Fact: The regular use of a sauna WILL improve your skin and keep it looking younger.
How does sauna bathing keep your skin healthy and looking young? First some background on the human body: The skin acts much like a third kidney in elimination of toxic waste from the body. It is, though, far more complex than the kidney and only second to the brain in complexity. That is really something to think about! The skin is a network of blood vessels, nerve endings, vessles for carrying lymph, pigmentation, oil glands, hair follicles, and cells that waterproof and deny entry to bacteria and sweat glands. The skin is so important to life that death by accumulated poisons can occur within hours if the skin and its sweat passges are smothered. Remember the movie “Goldfinger”?

The skin of a person who is a regular sauna bather is supple and healthy. Properly cared for skin is better able to resist eczema, athlete’s foot, pimples and blackheads. The number one thing people tell us after they’ve purchased a sauna is that their skin has never looked better!  Friends ask if they’ve had a face lift.

Combine sweat bathing and brushing with a loofa or rough brush removes flakes of dried skin cells that accumulate on the outer layer. All of that “dead skin”clogs sweat pores and oil passages and results in a dry, flaky residue.

It’s been said that most people deep clean their carpets more often than they deep clean their skin! Give your skin a break and improve your overall health by taking sauna baths regularly. Wouldn’t you love to look younger without expensive creams and/or surgery?

Installing a sauna at home is a very inexpensieve, time saving and convenient way to maintain good health.  Install a sauna for affordable self-care at home! If you’re not fond of a sweaty, hot sauna, the new far-infrared saunas are for you!  You sweat, but the room does not get excessively hot. And, the soft dry heat penetrates deeper into the skin for better results. For overall clean-get a sauna.

Health care is in the news daily. But it’s always about what the government or insurance companies will do for you. It’s never about what you can do to maintain your own good health. FIND OUT WHY MORE PEOPLE ARE INSTALLING INFRARED SAUNAS IN THEIR MASTER BEDROOMS

Why are more people installing Finnleo infrared saunas in their master bedrooms?

1. Finnleo Saunas are beautiful to look at? NO
2. Finnleo Saunas plug into a 110V household outlet and cost pennies per use? NO
3. Finnleo Saunas are relaxing? NO

The answer is NO. Nitric oxide. I had a most interesting conversation Monday with Dr. Jonathan Wright, the internationally know physician who specializes in natural healing. He recommends infrared saunas to many of his patients at his Tahoma clinic in Renton especially those going through chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Sweating out the toxic effects of chemotherapy is highly recommended.  But he had another reason for recommending infrared saunas: NO. Nitric oxide.  Studies have shown a 1400% increase in nitric oxide as a result of taking an infrared sauna 1-2X a week he told me. Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels which is a good thing for patients with congestive heart failure and those who want to enjoy intimacy without a prescription!  Better than V—–a say many of his patients!

WHAT TO DO IN THE SAUNA? GIVE YOUR PARTNER A HAND REFLEXOLOGY MASSAGE

A really nice thing to do in the sauna is give your partner (and receive!) a hand reflexology massage. We all suffer from things like headaches, earaches, or backaches from time to time and hand reflexology can provide quick relief.

Hand reflexology is not as well known as foot reflexology, but the principles are the same. There are points on the hands that correspond to areas of the body. The following diagram shows those areas.

LEFT PALM

HOW TO GIVE A HAND REFLEXOLOGY MASSAGE: Gently massage each point in turn starting at the head (around the thumb area) and working down across the neck, throat, and chest down to the feet. Hand reflexology has an advantage over foot reflexology because it can be performed anywhere.

There are useful techniques to learn for the treatment of simple every day complaints. (Never use it if there is likely to be an under lying injury, or medical condition.)
Here are a few:

HEADACHE:
If you have a headache you may find that stimulating the top of the thumb and the part below which represents the neck area will help relieve your headache.

EARACHE:
Stimulate the little finger and the ring finger of each hand in turn.

STOMACH UPSET:
Gently massage the heel of the thumb and the area across the center of the hand. If there is pain, stop immediately because this may indicate something deeper that requires medical treatment.

LOWER SPINAL PAIN:
The point where the center of your hand joins your wrist can be stimulated to give relief from lower back pain.  This is a perfect antidote to backache caused by sitting at a computer for too long. Always seek medical advice if you don’t know what the problem is.

Try hand reflexology in the sauna or hot tub. It can’t hurt, feels good and who doesn’t like to hold hands with your partner??  Let me know how it goes!

TAKE A SAUNA 2-3 TIMES A WEEK SAYS NATURAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER, DR. ANDREW WEIL

In his book “8 Weeks to Optimum Health-A Proven Program for Taking Full Advantage of Your Body’s Natural Healing Power “, noted natural health practitioner, Dr. Andrew Weil recommends taking a sauna 2-3 times a week. The health benefits are unbeatable.  Saunas promote sweating by exposing the skin to high heat. The body’s surface temperature while sitting in a sauna, even briefly, can rise to 104 degrees F. The heart rate will increase, and blood will begin to circulate toward the skin surface, causing the body to sweat as it cools itself down.

Many people believe it is this process that is the biggest benefit of a sauna.  Dr. Weil says that “when you take a sauna, the heat pumps up blood circulation near the skin and stimulates sweating. The Finns say a proper sauna elicits about a quart of sweat per hour. … It helps the body rid itself of unwanted materials and improves general circulation.”

Dr Weil also says in his health column, “I’m a sauna enthusiast, and I often recommend “sweat bathing” in saunas to cleanse the skin, soothe sore muscles, or simply relax. Sweating in a sauna can also be beneficial to patients with arthritis, asthma or respiratory infections, and is a good way to recover from overindulgence in food or drink. The sweating rids the body of excess sodium and other unwanted substances. It also helps eliminate drugs and some toxins and by doing so can take some of the workload off the liver and kidneys. I recommend regular visits to saunas or steam rooms to patients with liver or kidney disease.

Sweating in a sauna or steam room dilates the blood vessels, which reduces blood pressure and increases circulation to the skin. You don’t need much time in the heat – 10 to 20 minutes is enough to work up a good sweat.

If you have high blood pressure or a heart problem, be sure to check with your physician before going to a sauna or steam room. The heat can cause circulatory changes, including an increased heart rate. Overall, however, the only real risk to a sauna or steam room is spending too much time sweating. You can faint from overheating and from dehydration. Be sure to drink lots of water before, during and after your sweat.”

Take it from Dr. Weil whose reputation for wellness advocacy is worldwide. He believes that taking the steps to maintain good health pays huge dividends as we age. Taking a sauna 2-3 times a week is one giant step to attaining optimum health.  He’s not the only raving fan of saunas. Our customers can’t say enough about the benefits!

GET THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT FROM YOUR FINNLEO FAR INFRARED SAUNA EXPERIENCE

Finnleo far Infrared saunas are a perfect way to bring relaxation into your life. Many people are accustomed to traditional saunas and how to use them for maximum health benefits. Infrared saunas are a newer way to take a sauna and most people are not familiar with how to use them for maximum effect. Here are some suggestions for using your infrared sauna to maximize your enjoyment and well-being. The many health benefits are detailed on other posts.

1. Infrared saunas should be turned on and allowed to heat to about 102 or 103 degrees before you enter the sauna room. Your body will heat up as the room temperature rises.
2. Laying a towel on your bench will help keep the sauna wood clean and free from staining.

3. Some users will take longer to sweat in an infrared sauna-don’t give up! Because infrared is designed to heat your body differently than a traditional sauna, you are in fact receiving the systemic benefits the minute you enter the infrared sauna.
4. If your body is not used to an infrared sauna environment, it may take 2-3 weeks for you to condition your body to sweat during an infrared session. Once you go through this initial “ramp up” period, you will find your body heating up more quickly and sweating toxins at a more rapid pace.
5. Remember-you are, in fact, in a sauna environment, even though there is no steam or extreme heat like a traditional sauna uses. Hydrating while in the sauna will help you detoxify, and allow you to remain in your infrared sauna longer. Sweating helps the body rid itself of excess sodium, drugs and some toxins, thereby reducing the workload of the liver. It also improves general circulation. The deeper penetration of an infrared sauna can cause you to sweat more than in a traditional sauna. Caution: If you have high blood pressure or heart problems check with your doctor before using.
6. A typical infrared therapy session can last up to 30 minutes.
7. Follow your sauna with a shower, rest and a glass of water.

To get the most out of your time in the sauna, you will need:

* At least half an hour of uninterrupted time, preferably an hour or more, so you have ample time to cool down and benefit fully from the relaxation effect;
* A large cotton towel to dry yourself;
* A loofah sponge or scrub brush to remove dead skin;
* Eucalyptus oil or other calming fragrance to scent the sauna.
* Plenty of cool, not cold water to drink.

Nice to have ready:
· A small towel to sit on;
· A moisturizing lotion for after the sauna;
· A big, Turkish cotton bathrobe to wear while cooling down.
